【Dock Cleaning Pump】Introduction
Currently, several common rust removal methods in modern industry include high-pressure water jet rust removal, acid pickling rust removal, circulating acid pickling, ultrasonic rust removal, laser rust removal, and sandblasting.
Sandblasting for rust removal has various disadvantages and is still widely used in anti-corrosion engineering. Sandblasting technology refers to the use of certain specifications of abrasives (quartz sand, river sand, iron sand, steel shot, etc.) that are sprayed onto the steel surface under certain air pressure. It uses the hardness, impact toughness, and sharp edges of the abrasives to remove rust from the steel surface. This method offers higher rust removal quality and better surface roughness compared to other rust removal methods, and it has high efficiency for large equipment. However, its disadvantages include significant dust pollution to the environment, severe health risks to operators, potential damage to the ship's surface with prolonged use, inability to recycle abrasives, impact on other operations, and complicated site cleanup. In some European and American countries, waste discharge standards are quite strict; for example, waste sand generated after sandblasting must be treated at a cost (burial). Due to heavy environmental pollution from sandblasting, its use has been gradually restricted internationally, and some countries have outright banned sandblasting in ship rust removal applications, prioritizing environmental protection and personnel safety.
High-pressure water jet rust removal can be divided into two categories: pure high-pressure water and abrasive jet.
High-pressure water and abrasive jet rust removal is a rust removal technology developed in recent years that, due to its environmentally friendly characteristics, has completely changed the dust pollution issues associated with dry sandblasting, while also improving rust removal efficiency, leading to its increasingly widespread application both domestically and internationally.
Application of high-pressure water jet systems in the shipbuilding industry
(1)Shipbuilding
Rust removal for steel pretreatment and coating projects;
Cleaning of burnt primer, welding slag, and deposits generated during the welding process;
Removal of burnt rust, dirt, and a large amount of sea salt deposited on the cross-sections of prefabricated parts of the hull.
(2)Ship Maintenance
Cleansing of marine life from the hull, cabin, or propeller;
Rust and coating peeling on the surfaces of the cabin, ballast tank, and fuel tank;
Cleaning and paint stripping of the ship's superstructure, deck, deck equipment, and anchor chains. Cleaning and maintenance in dry dock;
Removal of paint coatings above and below the waterline of the hull;
Cleaning of carbon deposits from ship diesel engine cylinder valves, etc.
Characteristics of high-pressure water pure water rust removal
(1)Choose the appropriate pressure level based on different usage scenarios; high-pressure water jet rust removal can meet the requirements for metal coating surface pretreatment without damaging the treated metal substrate.
(2)High-pressure water jet cleaning does not cause secondary pollution; after treatment, no secondary cleaning is required unless specified.
(3)High-pressure water can clean surfaces of objects with complex shapes and structures and can perform rust removal operations in confined spaces or harsh environments.
(4)High-pressure water rust removal is highly mechanized, efficient, strong in de-scaling ability, and cost-effective.
High-pressure water rust removal working principle
Ultra-high pressure cleaning machines boost ordinary water to ultra-high pressures of 170~ 250MPa through high-pressure pumps and then rapidly spray it out through nozzles. The water jet forms a highly concentrated energy jet with speeds nearly three times the speed of sound, impacting and grinding the metal surface being cleaned. The rust layer, scale, etc., are mostly layered or porous; once the scale layer is penetrated, the ultra-high pressure water jet wedges itself between the scale layer and the metal surface. When its impact energy and wedging force exceed the adhesion limit strength of the scale layer and the base metal, the rust and scale layers are removed.
Cleaning with high-pressure water jets is achieved through forces transmitted to the surfaces of objects, caused by several forms of actions that result in damage to the object :
(1)Cavitation damage;
(2)Impact action of the water jet;
(3)Dynamic pressure action of the water jet;
(4)Fatigue damage caused by pulsed loads of the water jet;
(5)Water wedge action, etc.
