Xiaomi su7's rashomon
"The door indeed cannot be opened."
"I'm sorry for wrongly blaming Xiang Xiang back then. After the Xiaomi SU7 collision, the car door indeed didn't unlock. I came back specifically to apologize."
In August 2024, the blogger "Oh, it's Xiang Xiang" released a video of a collision between Xiaomi SU7 and JiKe 007. In the video, after the collision, the doors of the Xiaomi SU7 could not be opened.
However, later, this matter took a dramatic turn.
It turns out that the Xiangxiang team tampered during the testing of the Xiaomi SU7, which resulted in the car doors being unable to open after a collision.
For a while, netizens collectively condemned the situation. Eventually, in January 2025, Xiaomi's legal department issued a statement saying that they had been informed by judicial authorities that Xiang Xiang had been apprehended in accordance with the law.
However, just as the first "car door" incident ended with a complete victory for Xiaomi, things changed.
On October 13, 2025, the Chengdu Public Security Bureau Traffic Management Bureau issued a report on an accident that occurred on Tianfu Avenue in Chengdu. The individual involved, Deng, was driving a sedan when it collided with another sedan, then crossed the central road green belt and caught fire. The accident resulted in the death of Deng.
A video circulating online shows that with the vehicle already on fire, several courageous individuals attempted to rescue Deng.
According to media reports, a person used a large wrench to smash half of a car window, while others reached in to open the car door, but the door:
Can't open it.
At the same time, there were already noticeable sounds of explosions inside the car, and everyone could only retreat. Later, someone brought a fire exting
Ultimately, after the fire rescue personnel arrived, they immediately extinguished the fire and used tools such as hammers and electric saws to break open the car door.
The car with doors that won't open, as everyone probably knows by now, is a Xiaomi SU7 Ultra.
This is precisely because it is a Xiaomi SU7 Ultra, and the car doors couldn't be opened after the collision, which led to the iconic scene mentioned at the beginning of the article—netizens lining up to apologize to Xiang Xiang.
In the face of the tragic accident, I can understand the feelings of the majority of netizens. However, I still want to say that Xiang Xiang himself admitted to tampering with the Xiaomi SU7 during the testing process, so I hope everyone can express themselves rationally.
However, it is worth noting that this is not the first time netizens have lined up to apologize to Xiang Xiang.
In March of this year, in Tongling, Anhui, a Xiaomi SU7 was traveling at a speed of 116 km/h under NOA assisted driving when an unfortunate accident occurred, resulting in the death of three people.
A passing driver also went to help and used a stick to smash the car window, but he found that the door of the Xiaomi SU7:
Can't open.
Finally, he broke the rear window glass and pulled someone out, but unfortunately, it was too late.
It is not difficult to notice that in both accidents in Tongling and Chengdu, the car doors could not be opened, affecting the rescue situation.
Many netizens believe that the nature of the Chengdu accident is different from the Tongling accident. The Chengdu accident is not a problem with the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra, as the police report clearly stated: "After testing, Deng is suspected of driving a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol."
However, the problem is that having an accident and being unable to open the car door are two different issues. According to the current national standard for "Occupant Protection in Frontal Collision of Motor Vehicles":
After a collision occurs, at least one car door should be able to open.
In September this year, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology released a draft for public comments on the "Safety Technical Requirements for Automobile Door Handles," further clarifying:
Each door (excluding the tailgate) should be equipped with an exterior door handle that has a mechanical release function. The system design should ensure that when the locking device is in a locked state, in the event of irreversible restraint device deployment or a power battery thermal incident, the non-collision side doors should be able to be opened via the exterior door handle without the use of tools.
However, some netizens believe that in the Chengdu accident, the speed of the vehicle involved was likely far above the national standard crash test speed of 50km/h ± 2km/h.
According to the rescue vehicle owner at the scene of the Xiaomi SU7 accident in Chengdu, the car doors did not appear to be visibly deformed but just wouldn't open. From the photos of the rescue scene, the damaged Xiaomi SU7 Ultra did not show any structural deformation.

Of course, whether it has deformed or not should ultimately be based on Xiaomi's official explanation.
In the 2024 crash test results released by the China Insurance Automotive Safety Index (C-IASI), the Xiaomi SU7 achieved the highest G+ rating in all three major safety test categories: occupant safety index, pedestrian safety index, and vehicle auxiliary safety index.
So, why won't the door of the Xiaomi SU7 open when you need it the most?
What is the problem?
As is well known, when it comes to car manufacturing, Xiaomi and Lei Jun have always maintained high standards and strict requirements. Whether it's the cabin chip or the tissue box, they must all be automotive-grade.
Why is it that in the accidents in Chengdu and Tongling, the car doors just couldn't be opened?

In the latest episode, automotive industry blogger "Flying Cloud 520" analyzed the working principle of the Xiaomi SU7's door lock for the audience.
He pointed out that the door design of the Xiaomi SU7 is very special. Inside the semi-concealed door handle, there is a micro switch similar to a mouse button to control the door opening and closing. As long as one of the vehicle's high-voltage or low-voltage power sources can remain operational, the door can be opened.
After the accident, if both power sources fail, it could lead to the situation where the doors cannot be opened normally.
So, can the Xiaomi SU7 not be unlocked using the mechanical handle and then the car door opened?
The answer is yes.
However, Xiaomi's mechanical unlock handle is located on the inside of the car door. This means that regardless of whether an accident occurs, if the vehicle is in a power-off state, using the mechanical handle to unlock the door requires someone to be inside the car, or reaching in from the outside.
Moreover, when the vehicle is already on fire, it is almost impossible for passing drivers to reach into the car amid the flames to pull the mechanical handle and unlock the door.
The analysis of "Flying Cloud 520" is not without basis.
Earlier, when responding to Xiang Xiang's video, Xiaomi officially took the stage to provide an educational explanation. In "Xiaomi SU7 Answers to Netizens' Questions (Episode 67)," Xiaomi gave a detailed analysis to netizens about the mechanical unlock handle position and usage method of the Xiaomi SU7.
The Xiaomi SU7's four doors are equipped with emergency mechanical handles, as shown in the diagram. In case of an emergency where you need to open the door, you can pull the emergency handle to open the corresponding side door.
When the vehicle's low-voltage battery is depleted, the doors can only be unlocked and opened by pulling the emergency mechanical handle inside the door.

Perhaps this is why, after the two accidents in Anhui and Chengdu, external rescuers were unable to open the car doors by smashing the windows and pulling hard. In the end, they could only wait for firefighters to cut or break open the doors to complete the rescue.
Lastly, it's worth noting that "========520" also educated many netizens on how to open the door of the SU7 car in the event of a power outage. He mentioned that you can contact after-sales service to jump-start the Xiaomi SU7 from outside the car. Once the car is powered, you can open the door.
According to a report by The Paper, Xiaomi Auto customer service staff stated that since the incident occurred at 3 a.m., there were no staff on duty during this time period, and no related assistance or report calls were received.
"Are there still car companies whose customer service for repairs is not available 24/7?" exclaimed an insider from a car company.
