WTO: Indonesia Expands Safeguard Measures on Imported Linear Low-Density Polyethylene Products
2025 On August 7, the WTO Committee on Safeguards released a notification submitted by the Indonesian delegation regarding safeguard measures. At the request of the Indonesia Olefin, Aromatic, and Plastics Industry Association (INAPLAS) submitted on April 15, 2025, Indonesia has expanded the scope of products subject to safeguard measures on imports of linear low-density polyethylene (polyethylene containing 5% or less alpha-olefin monomers, in other than liquid/paste form). The scope now includes ethylene-alpha-olefin copolymers having a specific gravity of less than 0.94, classified under Indonesian tariff heading 3901.40.00.
On September 11, 2024, the WTO Committee on Safeguards published the safeguard notification submitted by the Indonesian delegation. On September 9, 2024, at the request of Indonesian producers, the Indonesian Safeguard Measures Committee (KPPI) initiated an investigation into safeguard measures on imports of linear low-density polyethylene (Polyethylene containing 5% or less alpha-olefin monomers, in other than liquid/paste form). The product concerned is polyethylene containing no more than 5% alpha-olefin monomers, in non-liquid/non-paste form, falling under Indonesia tariff heading 3901.10.92.
