Valeo Secures €9 Billion in Software-Defined Vehicle Orders Over Past Three Years

Gasgoo 2025-09-28 14:17:08

According to foreign media reports, Valeo has received 9 billion euros (approximately 10.6 billion US dollars) in orders for software-defined vehicle (SDV) products over the past three years, accounting for more than 10% of the company's total orders during the same period.

Derek de Bono, Vice President of Valeo's Software Defined Car Business, stated that as clients such as Volkswagen Group, BMW, and Renault gradually transition to software-defined vehicles, the momentum for related product sales is expected to accelerate further. However, he did not provide specific forecast figures.

On September 9, during an interview with Automotive News Europe at the 2025 IAA MOBILITY in Germany, Derek de Bono stated that despite the increasing importance of software, the value of the hardware embedding the software will still exceed that of the software itself. He added, "I believe both are crucial elements of a software-defined vehicle."

Derek de Bono stated that Valeo adopts a pragmatic approach in the field of software-defined vehicles. "We have the ability to develop hardware, software development capabilities, and can achieve software and hardware integration. Depending on the specific needs of automakers, we can provide full-process services or only be responsible for certain parts of the process."

Derek de Bono further stated that as software-defined vehicle projects progress, Valeo's partnerships with automakers tend to deepen; if automakers have any needs, Valeo is always ready to provide additional support.

Valeo's expertise in hardware and software includes automated parking software algorithms, sensors, and electronic control units (ECUs). The company also estimates that currently, one in three new cars produced globally is equipped with its developed advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).

Derek de Bono also emphasized that automakers and suppliers need to establish partnerships to address the complex challenges in the transition to software-defined vehicles.
