United Kingdom to Include More Vehicle Models in Electric Vehicle Subsidy Program
According to foreign media reports, the UK government has expanded its Electric Car Grant (ECG) program, adding six new electric vehicle models, allowing consumers to save up to £3,750 when purchasing these new cars.
The newly added models to the UK electric vehicle subsidy scheme include the Ford Puma Gen-E and Ford e-Tourneo Courier, both eligible for a £3,750 discount; as well as four electric vehicle models, the Peugeot E-308, Peugeot E-408, DS 3, and DS Nº4, each eligible for a £1,500 discount.

This initiative is part of a comprehensive plan by the UK government totaling £650 million, aimed at transforming the country's transportation system to a more sustainable model by reducing the cost of owning electric vehicles. The plan is also expected to significantly promote the development of the UK automotive industry, drive economic growth, and support employment and skills training.
Ford’s aforementioned models are leading in the UK’s electric vehicle subsidy program, being among the first to offer the highest level of incentives. Currently, a total of 28 electric vehicle models are eligible for the UK ECG subsidy, with amounts of either £1,500 or £3,750.
The UK government has invested over £4.5 billion in the electric vehicle sector, highlighting the country's commitment to encouraging businesses and individual consumers to switch to electric vehicles.
It is reported that the UK's electric vehicle program will further expand the scope of subsidies. In the coming weeks, more electric vehicle models are expected to meet sustainability standards and be included in the government subsidy list.
UK Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander stated, "Our measures are driving competition in the UK's electric vehicle market, promoting economic growth, and supporting employment and skills training as part of our 'Transformation Plan'."
To accelerate the construction of the national charging network, the UK has currently deployed over 83,000 public charging points and is continuously expanding. According to the government's plan, the Local Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (LEVI) fund, totaling £381 million, will help boost the country's charging network with an additional 100,000 charging points.
To further encourage consumers to switch to electric vehicles, the UK government has also launched a £63 million charging infrastructure initiative aimed at providing more convenient home charging solutions.
