Unexpected downshifting at high speeds, nearly 1.3 million Ford F-150 trucks under investigation.
U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced that it has launched an investigation into nearly 1.3 million Ford F-150 trucks. The investigation was initiated due to consumer complaints that the vehicle would unexpectedly downshift while driving at high speeds, causing the vehicle to decelerate rapidly and increasing the risk of a collision.
According to the NHTSA, they have received 138 consumer complaints about the 2015 to 2017 F-150 models. In addition to the issue of unintended downshifting, some owners have reported that after the downshift, the rear wheels would temporarily lock up, making the vehicle more difficult to control. Fortunately, there have been no reports of collisions or injuries related to this issue so far.
A Ford spokesperson said the issue involves the vehicle's six-speed transmission, and Ford is working with NHTSA to fully support its investigation.
IT Home noted that in February this year, Ford also recalled over 240,000 Expedition models due to improper seat belt anchoring. Earlier this month, Ford had to recall up to 12,333 Bronco Sport and Maverick models again for repair issues.
