Trump's "reciprocal tariffs" on countries around the world officially took effect at 12:01 AM Eastern Daylight Time on August 7, 2025 (corresponding to 12:01 PM Beijing Time on August 7, 2025).

U.S. President Trump signed an executive order imposing reciprocal tariffs ranging from 10% to 41% on goods from America's global trade partners. This policy officially began implementation at 12:01 AM (Eastern Time) on August 7.

Just minutes before it took effect, Trump also posted about it on social media.

Reciprocal tariff rates vary by country, with Syria facing the highest reciprocal tariff of 41%. For EU goods, if the current tariff is below 15%, it is supplemented to 15%. The reciprocal tariff rate for most countries is 10%, which is also the minimum rate.

In addition to reciprocal tariffs, five countries—China, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, and India—are subject to additional tariffs, which are "regulated by separate orders signed by Trump."

⚠️ Brazil: Starting August 7, the United States will impose an additional 40% tariff on Brazil, plus a 10% retaliatory tariff, bringing the total additional tariff rate to 50%.

⚠️ Canada: Starting August 1, the United States will raise the tariff rate on goods imported from Canada to the U.S. from 25% to 35%. Goods that qualify under the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) are exempt.

⚠️ Mexico: On July 31, the U.S. and Mexico agreed to extend their agreement by 90 days, meaning that the U.S. will continue to impose a 25% tariff on fentanyl from Mexico.

⚠️ China: China is subject to a 20% tariff on fentanyl and a 10% reciprocal tariff. The suspension period for the 10% reciprocal tariff will expire on August 12. According to the consensus reached during the China-U.S. economic and trade talks in Stockholm, Sweden, both sides will continue to promote the extension of the 10% reciprocal tariff suspension for 90 days.

⚠️ India: The United States' imposition of a 25% retaliatory tariff on Indian goods will take effect on August 7. Additionally, on August 6, Trump announced an additional 25% tariff on Indian goods, citing India’s continued purchase of Russian oil. The new tariff will take effect within 21 days after August 7. The two tariffs combined will raise the tariff on Indian exports to the U.S. to 50%.

The following is the latest situation of the tariffs imposed by the United States on various countries:

After the Trump administration first announced the "reciprocal tariffs" plan on April 2, it suspended implementation less than a day later, retaining only the 10% baseline tariff. The plan was originally scheduled to take effect on August 1, but due to negotiation needs, it was postponed to August 7. White House officials stated that this date has been finalized and no further delays will be accepted.

In addition, a large number of goods, especially those involving Chinese products—such as Section 232 products and products under specific tariff codes—are exempt from reciprocal tariffs.
