Toyota Global Sales Slightly Increase 1% In August

Gasgoo 2025-09-30 09:28:42

On September 29, Toyota Motor Corporation announced that its global sales in August reached 900,598 vehicles (including subsidiaries Daihatsu and Hino), an increase of 1% year-on-year, marking the eighth consecutive month of year-on-year growth.

Toyota Motor Corporation has seen steady growth in the Chinese and North American markets, setting sales records. However, a significant decline in domestic sales in Japan nearly offsets this growth. In August, Toyota's overseas sales increased by nearly 4%, reaching 748,694 units, a new monthly high, but sales in Japan dropped by more than 12% to 96,269 units.

At the same time, global sales of Toyota's pure electric vehicles increased by 35%, reaching 17,056 units, but only 18 units were sold in Japan.

In terms of regions, Toyota's sales in the North American market in August increased by 12% year-on-year to 259,816 units. This was partly due to a low base last year, as Toyota had halted production because of recalls of the TX and Grand Highlander models. Additionally, strong performance of hybrid models such as the Camry and RAV4 contributed to the growth. During the same period, Toyota's sales in Europe rose by 5% year-on-year to 76,501 units, mainly benefiting from the strong performance of the Yaris model. In China, the company's sales in August increased slightly by 1% to 153,415 units. Despite the current challenging market environment in China, including the transition to new energy vehicles and intensified price competition, Toyota still achieved year-on-year growth in overall sales in China, thanks to effective promotional measures linked to government subsidy policies and the strong sales performance of the new all-electric model bZ3X.

In terms of production, Toyota Motor Corporation produced a total of 837,869 vehicles worldwide in August, an increase of nearly 4% year-on-year.

Despite the recent persistent downturn in the domestic Japanese market and the trade turbulence caused by the Trump administration's tariffs on cars and auto parts imported into the United States, as the world's largest automaker, Toyota has still achieved steady growth in most major markets this year. Thanks to the revived demand for hybrid vehicles, Toyota has set new records for car production and sales for seven consecutive months.

In August this year, Toyota lowered its annual profit forecast, stating that the 15% tariff imposed by the Trump administration would reduce its net profit by 1.4 trillion yen (approximately 9.5 billion USD). The company now expects that its operating profit for the fiscal year ending March 2026 will be 3.2 trillion yen, down from the initial forecast of 3.8 trillion yen.

In August, among other Japanese automakers, Nissan's global sales increased by 3% to 251,081 vehicles, largely driven by a 13% rise in sales in the U.S. market and a 19% increase in the Chinese market. During the same period, Honda's global sales fell by 7% year-on-year to 289,688 vehicles.
