The State Council's Supervision and Promotion Standards: Requirements for the PET and HDPE "Plastic Recycling and Reuse Design Guide" Need to Accelerate
To implement the national deployment and arrangement for plastic pollution control in depth, and to accelerate the green and low-carbon transformation of the plastic products industry, the State Council included the two national standards "Design Guide for Plastic Recyclability and Regenerability Part 1: PET" and "Design Guide for Plastic Recyclability and Regenerability Part 2: HDPE" as key supervisory projects in March 2024.
According to the latest deployment requirements of the relevant national authorities, the two national standard research and development tasks for "Plastics - Design for Recyclability and Regeneration" originally scheduled to be completed by the end of 2025 have been fully advanced.
As the third batch of recommended national standard projects in 2024, the standard development cycle has been significantly compressed from the original 18 months to the plan of being officially released by mid-2025.
Time is tight and the task is heavy. To ensure the task is completed on time and to a high quality, the standard development work has been significantly advanced.
The concept of "promoting green design to enhance the safety and recyclability of plastic products," clearly outlined in the 14th Five-Year Plan, has taken root in people's minds.
The experience of the international community in addressing plastic pollution shows that recyclable and regenerative design is a fundamental technological approach to solving the plastic pollution problem. Actively promoting recyclable and regenerative design not only helps China achieve substantial progress in domestic plastic pollution management but also enhances China's discourse power and influence in the global plastic pollution governance arena, contributing Chinese wisdom and solutions to the construction of a community with a shared future for mankind.
The development of two national standards is a deep collaboration between policies, industries, and international trends. In order to ensure the high-quality and efficient completion of the development work for these two national standards, we are now publicly inviting participating units from the entire industry.
Scope of solicitation: terminal brands, plastic products, polymers, additives (inks, adhesives), recycling and regeneration enterprises, environmental enterprises, government and testing institutions, and other units.
