Sanhe Coatings Launches Biodegradable Paint Containers Using PBAT Material
On August 7, 2025, Sanhe Paint announced that it would develop paint containers with biodegradable properties and apply them to the company's existing products.
In January 2024, Sanhe Coatings signed a business agreement with SK Ribio, the investment company of SKC's biodegradable materials division, and container manufacturer P&B to jointly carry out the research and development of this container.
The newly launched "biodegradable coating container" is made from a composite of biodegradable material PBAT (polybutylene adipate terephthalate) and natural limestone.
Unlike the oxidative biodegradation method, PBAT does not require the addition of decomposition promoters and can be decomposed solely through natural factors such as microorganisms, moisture, and heat. When composted at 58°C or higher, the container can achieve a degradation rate of over 90% within six months.
The "biodegradable coating container" is used as the container for the premium water-based paint "Ilux 10L." The Ilux series has obtained Korea's representative environmental certification—the Environmental Label Certification. Samhwa Paint has marked the slogan "Think Green" on the container and adopted an intuitive design that symbolizes the restoration of natural materials.
A representative from Sanhe Paint stated, "We are intensifying our research and development of environmentally friendly technologies to protect the environment and realize environmental values. We will gradually expand the application of biodegradable paint containers to provide consumers with more eco-friendly options."
