SAIC-GM Buick Sees Two Vehicle Fires Within a Month; Owners Say Excelsior and Regal Catch Fire After Warranty Expires

Kuai Technology 2025-08-27 16:33:52

On August 27th, according to the blogger "Please, Experienced Driver," it was reported that a female Buick Excelle owner recently informed him that her Excelle sedan caught fire spontaneously after the warranty expired, and the manufacturer refused to compensate, citing the expiration of the warranty.

The female car owner stated that she was driving normally when a fault code suddenly appeared on the dashboard, indicating that the airbag needed to be inspected. She then parked the car, turned off the engine, removed the car key, and took a photo.

After getting out of the car and making a phone call, the vehicle suddenly caught fire. She then dialed 119 to call the fire department. After the firefighters intervened, the flames were extinguished, but the vehicle was completely destroyed. The fire investigation report stated that the fire was caused by an electrical wiring fault in the dashboard area of the driver’s seat.

The female car owner stated that her car was purchased in 2017, has currently traveled 150,000 kilometers, has never been modified, and has been regularly serviced at the authorized dealership.

The manufacturer and the 4S store, citing the expiration of the vehicle's warranty, have not provided any explanation. She is demanding a cash compensation from the manufacturer.

The blogger contacted a customer service representative from SAIC General Motors Buick and stated, "Can a vehicle spontaneously combust just because it's out of warranty? Do you have to force users to complain to the media before your company gives a response?"

The blogger also said that if it were just an isolated case, there would be nothing to say, but he received another complaint a few days ago.

On August 10th, Mr. Wang's Buick Regal, which was parked in a parking space, also caught fire spontaneously. The vehicle had only been driven for over 40,000 kilometers and had just passed its warranty period.

Mr. Wang's demand is that the manufacturer compensate him with a car, but the manufacturer responded that if the customer insists on such a request, they should take the matter to court.

The blogger stated that, from a probabilistic standpoint, I have received two fire-related complaints in just one month. What about other car owners? The manufacturer should thoroughly investigate whether there is a quality issue with the cars on their production line.

If it were any other manufacturer, they would have long since sent a specialist to quickly negotiate with the car owner, preventing the issue from escalating. But your manufacturer just lies flat and even lets the car owner file a lawsuit, which is truly baffling.

The blogger also bluntly stated that recently, anyone buying a Buick from SAIC-GM should be very cautious. During the peak month of spontaneous combustion in August, I have never seen a brand catch fire twice in one month. The risk must be huge, and the quality control must be very poor.
