Reborn from the Ashes! Suez's £30 Million Super Recycling Plant is Nearing Completion!
Specialized Plastics Compilation 2025-03-20 14:02:42
Suez Group's material recovery facility reconstruction work is nearing completion. After a fire in 2022, the reconstruction began last year, and currently, the exterior of the building has been completed, with internal contractors working on-site.

Suez Group manages waste and recycling on behalf of Aberdeen City Council. After the reconstruction, the Material Recovery Facility (MRF) will be able to process approximately 60,000 tons of recyclables per year, including glass, cardboard, newspapers, plastics, and metals, which come from households across Aberdeen and Scotland.

In addition to the reconstruction of the material recovery facilities, the site will also feature offices, a waste transfer station, and a visitor center. The waste transfer station will allow vehicles from the city council to dump household residual waste, which will then be collected and transported elsewhere for processing.

Aberdeen City Council Co-Leader Ian Yuill said: "Having a local recycling facility again will be a key step for us in improving the quality and quantity of recyclables, to achieve a full service solution. Having our own facility to manage our recycling helps us provide the best possible collection service for our residents."

The office and waste transfer station are expected to be completed and put into use in the spring of 2025, and the visitor center is planned to open along with the entire facility by the end of the year.

Suez Group stated that groups and schools can visit the center to learn how their waste is managed, and how each person can work to reduce consumption and waste.

Specialist contractor Sutco has been appointed to install the equipment that will separate waste streams in the material recovery facility.

Colin Forshaw, Production Operations Manager at Suez, said: "It's very exciting to see Sutco installing the equipment on site. This equipment will allow us to once again start separating recyclable materials from Aberdeen households. It has been a busy year for our team in Aberdeen, with a lot of positive progress in waste and recycling, and we look forward to welcoming community groups to our new on-site visitor education center to introduce them to more information."
