Polycarbonate Enters India Market May Require BIS Certification
The market scale of polycarbonate in India is continuously expanding, but issues such as uneven product quality and chaotic market order are gradually emerging. To protect the rights and interests of Indian consumers and promote the healthy and orderly development of the industry, relevant Indian authorities are actively introducing policies to regulate the production, sale, and use of polycarbonate.
On September 22, 2021, the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers of India issued the "Polycarbonate (Quality Control) Order, 2021," stipulating that polycarbonate must comply with IS 14434:1998. According to the "BIS (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018," a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) is required to use the standard mark, while export products may be exempted.
Between 2022 and 2024, the quality control order underwent multiple revisions. The "Second Revision Order of Polycarbonate (Quality Control), 2024," issued on September 17, 2024, postponed the implementation date to March 12, 2025. On March 11, 2025, another revision order was issued, further delaying the implementation date to September 12, 2025.
After three revisions and delays, the implementation date is set forSeptember 12, 2025This time, the Indian policy may indeed require BIS certification, so companies should actively prepare.
