Plastic Pipe Testing Lab Expands to Meet Growing Global Market
Global laboratory-based testing services leader Element Materials Technology has announced an expansion of its lab in Sweden specialized in plastic pipe testing. Element said the investment is designed to meet growing demand for specialized testing across multiple sectors using plastic pipes, including water and gas distribution, underfloor heating, district heating, and various industrial applications. The expanded facility is scheduled to open in Nyköping in 2026.
"We are seeing a significant increase in demand for specialist pipe testing services across a range of industries,” said Division Director Björn Kullman in a prepared statement. “Our expanded facility will optimize our current offering."
Half-century legacy serving the global plastic pipe industry
The facility in Nyköping has supported the global plastic pipe industry for more than 50 years, serving clients across North America, South America, Europe, and Asia. The new 3,000-square-meter (32,292-square-foot) facility will incorporate green energy management solutions in line with Element’s commitment to sustainability, said the company, which has its headquarters in London.
Element employs more than 8,000 scientists, engineers, and technologists across a global network of more than 270 laboratories, supporting customers from early R&D through complex regulatory approvals and into production.
Global plastic pipes market projected to achieve 5.5% CAGR through 2032
The increasing demand for testing services cited by Element as driving its expansion aligns with expected overall growth in the global plastic pipes market, according to a report from Persistence Market Research. Analysts project the plastic pipes market to achieve a 5.5% compound annual growth rate (CAGR) from 2025 to 2032 and generate revenue of $39.4 billion this year. Increasing urbanization and industrialization and demand from diverse sectors including building and construction, water infrastructure, agriculture, oil & gas, and chemicals will drive the global market to reach a value of $57.3 billion by 2032, according to the firm’s researchers.
Other key insights from the report include the following.
Building and construction is the largest end-user sector for plastic pipes.
North America and Asia Pacific are the largest regional markets for plastic pipes. Within those regions, the world's two largest economies, the United States and China, account for 22% and 23%, respectively, of the global plastic pipes market.
PVC remains the dominant material in the extrusion of plastic pipes, although adoption of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) is a growing trend, especially for water and gas transportation systems. Chlorinated PVC has also recorded significant growth because of its temperature resistance, making it suitable for industrial applications such as chemical processing.
