Pearl Group Unveils Innovative Upcycling Solution: Transforming Waste PET Bottles into High-Performance Eco-Friendly Insulation Material
Pearl Group, a leading company in the global polyurethane systems field, recently launched a new upgrade and recycling program, reusing PET plastic bottles in its product system. The company incorporates crushed PET plastic bottles into the polyester production process, reusing plastic waste to create high-end insulation materials with superior environmental performance.
Upon full implementation of the project, Pearl Group plans to recycle the equivalent of 420 million plastic bottles annually. The first commercial batches have been successfully delivered and are now being rolled out across the entire business.
Pearl Group stated that this landmark project further demonstrates its commitment to sustainable innovation and sets a new benchmark for the industry. The initiative transforms waste materials—destined for landfills—into high-performance materials that significantly enhance energy efficiency in buildings and other applications, delivering direct environmental sustainability benefits over the coming decades. This approach not only mitigates the widespread impact of plastic pollution but also yields long-term environmental benefits through improved product performance—including enhanced fire resistance and higher energy efficiency.

Leslie Gyertson, Chief Operating Officer of Pearl Group, emphasized the significance of the program.
"The construction industry accounts for about 30% of global carbon dioxide emissions, and through reasonable insulation measures, nearly half of these emissions can be avoided. We enhance the energy efficiency of the building environment and help our customers actively participate in mitigating climate change through systems and solutions such as sandwich panels, spray foam, and insulation boards. Incorporating foam insulation materials that use recycled PET plastic bottles can bring even more significant effects. This is not just recycling — it's upcycling."
Pearl Group CEO Martin Kruczinna commented on the broader significance of the plan:
At Pearl, we believe that being a global company means embracing global responsibility. Addressing climate change requires bold action, and we are proud to be a catalyst for change in this area. Insulation materials are crucial in reducing energy consumption and carbon emissions. By incorporating recycled PET plastic bottles into our product line, we have achieved real tangible benefits without compromising quality. This initiative demonstrates that we can develop innovative and commercially viable solutions that benefit our customers, communities, and the planet.
This is the latest progress of Pearl Group in achieving tangible environmental benefits and reducing carbon emissions. The company launched the CO₂ board in 2023, a digital real-time carbon reduction counter that displays the carbon reduction achieved by its insulation products in real time. The product has obtained TÜV Rheinland certification, helping stakeholders to intuitively understand the impact of the application of sustainable building materials.
In addition to recycling PET plastic bottles, Pearl Group is also committed to gradually replacing petrochemical raw materials with environmentally friendly alternatives derived from plant biomass and other renewable sources.
