Nurture beauty with compostable NatureFlex™ film.

In February 2025, the Australian skincare brand Conserving Beauty chose the renewable and compostable NatureFlex film from Japan's Futamura Company for the packaging of its cleansing wipes.

Since its establishment in November 2021, Conserving Beauty has gained international attention with its dissolvable and compostable skincare products. Its offerings include the world's first dissolvable cleansing wipes, face masks, and acne patches, which have won over 8 global industry awards in Australia, the UK, and the US. The brand is committed to its mission of reducing the water footprint, carbon footprint, and waste footprint of the beauty industry through breakthrough innovations and protective research.

The brand's dissolvable cleaning wipes are popular worldwide. These wipes are carefully formulated with mild plant oils and vitamins, and have been validated by third-party clinical testing from dermatologists. They provide moisturizing and soothing effects even for the most sensitive skin, and are also gentle on dry, eczema-prone, and acne-prone skin. Moreover, the brand considers its impact on the earth in the production process, continuously monitoring and tracking the environmental footprint of all products, and is committed to minimizing negative impacts.

Based on the concept of sustainable development, Conserving Beauty has selected the new Econic™ compostable packaging produced by New Zealand processor Convex for its products. This high-performance pouch material is created by laminating Futamura's NatureFlex film with paper and adding another layer of biodegradable film to ensure airtightness. The NatureFlex film is derived from renewable wood pulp, which comes from sustainably managed plantations. It meets all relevant industrial composting standards such as AS4736, EN13432, and ASTM D6400, and has been certified for home composting according to Australian standard AS5810, French Din CERTO standard, and the OK Compost Home protocol. The NatureFlex film boasts excellent barrier properties against aroma, gases, and moisture.

This entirely new lamination structure fully meets all technical requirements: it ensures smooth operation on pouch production lines and effective packaging of wet wipes; its outstanding moisture barrier performance also provides good protection for the product before consumer use.

Natassia Grace, the founder and CEO of Conserving Beauty, said, "I am very happy to find such packaging solutions for our dissolvable wipes and masks. For me, it is crucial that the packaging aligns with the brand's philosophy. Product efficacy and sustainability initiatives have always been a major focus and investment in R&D at Conserving Beauty." Natassia has received numerous accolades for her outstanding contributions to innovation and sustainable business practices, including being named one of Forbes Asia's 30 Under 30 in 2024, the Future Women Award in 2022, and the inaugural BOF - Global Beauty Award for Beauty Business.

Futamura Regional Sales Manager Tamaki Kaga added, "We are delighted that NatureFlex films are part of the Conserving Beauty product solutions. Traditional packaging for such products usually combines plastic and foil, which is difficult to recycle. Our renewable and compostable films are an excellent choice for such applications, providing a more environmentally friendly end-of-life option."
