Japanese SkyDrive has received 373 pre-orders for "flying cars".
The "flying car" electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft from the Japanese startup SkyDrive Inc. is receiving an increasing number of orders from overseas companies, with a total of 373 pre-orders as of the end of February. According to SkyDrive, headquartered in Toyota City, Aichi Prefecture, they received an order for 50 units from the Indian private jet operator JetSetGo Aviation Services Pvt. Ltd. in January. They plan to establish a transportation service using these aircraft in Ahmedabad, a major city in Gujarat, western India. At the end of February, SkyDrive also received an order for 50 units from the Dubai-based helicopter operator AeroGulf Services Co. These companies are considering using the aircraft for sightseeing flights around tourist attractions in Dubai.
The delivery of the aircraft may begin in 2026 or later, provided that SkyDrive obtains type certification from aviation authorities, which is a prerequisite for mass-producing the aircraft. The aircraft, about 11.5 meters long and capable of seating three people, began production last March at a Suzuki Motor Group factory in Iwata City, Shizuoka Prefecture. SkyDrive plans to conduct a demonstration flight at the Osaka-Kansai Expo, which opens in April 2025.
