Global polylactic acid (PLA) producer TotalEnergies Corbion and French modified materials company Benvic have announced a strategic partnership to jointly promote the application of their Luminy PLA-based composites in durable sectors such as automotive, medical devices, cosmetic packaging, home appliances, and electrical and electronic products.

According to the agreement, Banvik will incorporate TotalEnergies Corbion's Luminy PLA into its Plantura bio-based plastic product line. By blending and modifying it with other bio-based materials, Banvik aims to provide more low-carbon solutions for durable applications compared to traditional petroleum-based ABS, PS, and PP.

"By continuing to invest in the engineering development and production capacity of the Plantura range, we firmly believe that bio-based materials are the future," said Eric Grange, Market Director at Bâmbuk. "With the support of TotalEnergies Corbion's technology, we are ready to seize new opportunities, strengthen our market competitiveness, and provide customers with high-performance sustainable materials."

This company, known for its expertise in PVC modified materials for construction, is expanding its technological advantages into emerging fields such as consumer goods, electronics, and automotive.

"We are delighted to collaborate with Balancier in extending the applications of sustainable PLA composites," emphasizes Hao Ding, TotalEnergies Corbion Global Market Director. "With our established brand collaboration network and deep understanding of the PLA market, both parties will accelerate the penetration of this material into key industries, demonstrating PLA's broader application potential beyond packaging and foodservice utensils."

By jointly conducting product optimization and customer development, the two companies plan to establish PLA composites as an innovative, scalable solution for OEM manufacturers in the automotive, electronics, and other industries.

TotalEnergies Corbion is headquartered in the Netherlands and operates a PLA production facility in Rayong, Thailand, with an annual output of 75,000 tons. Its Luminy PLA series includes heat-resistant and standard grades, widely used in packaging, consumer goods, textiles, and automotive sectors. The biodegradable and compostable properties of PLA make it an ideal choice for applications such as fresh produce packaging, foodservice items, durable consumer products, toys, and 3D printing. The company also achieves chemical recycling of Luminy PLA production waste through the hydrolytic depolymerization process at its Rayong plant.
