Fujian 900 Million Yuan Large-Scale Plastic Project Environmental Impact Assessment Approval
On August 27, the announcement of the approval decision for the environmental impact assessment documents of the construction project of SABIC Innovative Plastics (Fujian) Co., Ltd. was issued.
The SABIC 100,000 tons/year thermoplastic engineering plastic alloy project is located in the Gulei Port Economic Development Zone Petrochemical Base, Zhangzhou City, Fujian Province. The project involves the construction of an extrusion pelletizing production unit with an annual capacity of 100,000 tons.
Total investment: 900 million RMB, including 261 million RMB for civil construction, 531 million RMB for equipment, and 108 million RMB for other investments; Land area: total site area within the red line is 152,030.78 square meters.
The Color Masterbatch Industry Network noted that its filing information shows the planned number of imported equipment as 8 units (sets), with an equipment amount of 9.348 million USD, while the foreign exchange for technology is 0.0000 million USD.
The project primarily produces polycarbonate (PC) and polycarbonate/acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene plastics (PC/ABS) products. The production base will be equipped with blending production lines and testing equipment to meet the application needs of consumer electronics, electrical, automotive markets, as well as emerging fields such as photovoltaics, electrification, and 5G. The project is located north of Weiwu Road and east of Petrochemical Fifth Road in the Gulei Port Economic Development Zone, Zhangzhou, Fujian.
On August 6, 2024, SABIC announced that it has signed an investment agreement with the Fujian provincial government to build a thermoplastic engineering plastic alloy plant in Fujian.
According to Color Masterbatch Industry Network, this is not SABIC's first project layout in Fujian. As early as February 19, 2024, SABIC cooperated with Fujian Energy Petrochemical Group to launch the main construction of the Zhongsha Gulei Ethylene Project, an integrated project with an annual production capacity of 1.5 million tons of ethylene and downstream deep processing. The total investment of the project is approximately 44.8 billion RMB, and it is expected to be completed in 2026.
The Zhongsha Gulei Ethylene Project is the largest one-time investment joint venture project between Chinese and foreign partners in Fujian Province to date, and it is also the nation's first major project involving direct joint cooperation between a local provincial state-owned enterprise and a world-leading petrochemical giant.
