Failure Rate 4% vs 48%: Tesla Superchargers' Reliability Crushes the Competition
IT Home March 24 news, according to the research released by Consumer Reports last week,Tesla's Superchargers and Rivian's Adventure Network (RAN) far exceed other electric vehicle (EV) charging networks in reliability.
The failure rate of Tesla's charging piles is only 4%, while the failure rate of competitors such as Shell Recharge is as high as 48%. This gap highlights Tesla's leading position in the field of charging infrastructure.
The study is based on feedback from 1,230 owners of battery electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles, covering approximately 5,700 charging experiences. The failure rate of Tesla Superchargers is only 4%, making it the most reliable charging network, followed closely by the Rivian Adventure Network (RAN) with a 5% failure rate.
Shell Recharge has the highest failure rate at 48%; EVgo and Blink are at 43% and 41%, respectively. The failure rate for DC fast-chargers is 34%, while that for Level 2 chargers is 25%.
The study points out that hardware issues are the main cause of charging failures, with 76% of respondents reporting encountering situations such as screen damage, unresponsiveness, or displaying error messages. In addition, payment issues and insufficient charging power are also common problems. IT Home has attached relevant images as follows:

Drew Toher, the sustainable transportation project manager at Consumer Reports, said: "These findings show that the public charging experience varies greatly depending on the vehicle and the charging network. This is an important consideration for those who cannot charge at home."
