The company will have approximately 3,500 employees and an annual turnover of about 1.8 billion euros. By then, it will become one of the largest service providers in the process industry in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, and rank among the leading companies in the industry nationwide.
Thomas Wessel, Chief Human Resources Officer and Labor Director of Evonik, stated: "Currently, Evonik essentially manages all its businesses under a unified management structure. However, in today's era, which increasingly demands a high degree of specialization, we need to establish different structures to maintain a leading position in various fields. Therefore, we have brought together highly qualified and experienced service experts from the Marl and Wesseling sites into SYNEQT to create a strong company with a lean structure and quick decision-making capabilities."
The new company will integrate Evonik's two core infrastructure business units located in the Rhine and Ruhr river regions, leveraging its extensive industry experience to provide comprehensive services to the chemical and other process industries. Its areas of expertise include energy supply, pipeline construction and operation, facility and site safety management, technical services, waste disposal, port operations, park logistics, and firefighting services, as well as site security and employee catering operations.
Thomas Basten, spokesperson for SYNEQT management, stated: "We have gathered all key qualifications and fundamental resources and are committed to long-term efforts to develop the park into a climate-neutral, digitally interconnected, and highly flexible industrial ecosystem, achieving modular and customized asset allocation, closed-loop material circulation, and intelligent services. In the future, we will fully focus on these core tasks, continuously deepening cooperation with existing customers while exploring new business opportunities."
SYNEQT will officially start operations as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Evonik next January. In the future, the company may introduce external investors to provide financial support for business development through diversified equity cooperation, but relevant plans are still being comprehensively evaluated. Thomas Wessel emphasized, "We are carefully evaluating which option is most beneficial for the long-term development of SYNEQT and the group, and we are allowing ample decision-making time for this."
Currently, Evonik is both the operator and the largest customer of the Marl and Wesseling chemical parks. In the future, the group will focus more on its core business of chemical production. Therefore, about two years ago, Evonik announced that it would establish an independent service company by the end of 2025 and explore the best operational model. In addition to serving Evonik, the newly established SYNEQT is now providing customized services to more than twenty companies.
The Marl and Wesseling Chemical Parks are located in Germany's traditional chemical stronghold areas - the Ruhr and Rhine regions, possessing significant regional growth advantages, a mature service system, and highly developed infrastructure. Both parks have an industrial-grade hydrogen energy network and are connected to numerous key raw material and energy pipelines.
