European Bioplastics Association Relocates to Brussels as New Secretary General Takes Office to Drive Strategic Development
The European Bioplastics Association (EUBP), as the authoritative body representing the interests of the European bioplastics industry, has recently officially relocated its headquarters to Brussels. This move underscores the organization's determination to strengthen lobbying efforts with EU institutions, expand industry networks, and enhance policy influence.
With the headquarters relocation, the association announced the appointment of Lorenza Romanese as the new Secretary General. Lorenza, a leader with extensive experience in sustainable development and public affairs, will guide the association into a new phase of strategic development, further integrating into the EU policy framework.
This relocation marks a strategic upgrade following the successful establishment of the Brussels office in June 2023, highlighting the growing importance of bioplastics in Europe’s transition to a circular economy. As the EU accelerates efforts to promote sustainable prosperity and competitiveness, the European Bioplastics Association firmly believes that bio-based plastics, biodegradable plastics, and compostable plastics play a crucial role in achieving these goals.
These innovative materials can effectively reduce reliance on fossil resources, promote sustainable product design, and foster cross-industry innovation. By strengthening its presence in the core layers of EU policy, the association will more effectively support these strategic goals, ensuring that bioplastics are recognized as a crucial driver of Europe's green circular transition.
"Relocating is an inevitable choice in our development process," said Hasso von Pogrell, Managing Director of European Bioplastics. "Brussels, as the decision-making hub of the EU, will help us strengthen policy lobbying and deepen cooperation with various parties in the value chain."
The Brussels headquarters will be responsible for the association’s main operations and policy advocacy, while the Berlin office will continue to operate, ensuring the continuity of core functions such as the annual European Bioplastics Conference, seed programs, and R&D innovation projects.
The new Secretary-General, Lorenz Romanese, stated, "I am honored to join the association at this time, and I look forward to working closely with member units, stakeholders, and EU institutions to strengthen the industry's voice, promote forward-looking policies, and fully unleash the value of bioplastics for a sustainable future in Europe."
