Dual Track Progress! CATL's Xiamen Base Signed, Hungary Plant Nears Production, Accelerating Global Expansion
Recently, CATL has made significant progress in battery projects, simultaneously advancing its domestic and international strategies. On September 8th, CATL signed a new power battery production base in Xiamen and announced that its Hungarian factory will start production early next year. The total investment for these two projects exceeds 60 billion RMB, further consolidating its leading position in the global battery industry.
Xiamen High-Performance Lithium Battery Production Base Signed, Total Investment of 1.44 Billion Yuan.
At the 25th China International Fair for Investment and Trade "Invest in Fujian" major project signing ceremony,The Xiamen delegation signed six major foreign investment projects, with a total investment of 11.6 billion yuan, covering areas such as electronic information, new energy, aviation maintenance, and financial services.Strategic emerging industry projects such as new energy and new materials are the prominent highlights of this signing event by the Xiamen delegation.
At the site, the Ningde Dongqiao Economic and Technological Development Zone Huxi Phase III lithium-ion battery production line expansion and upgrade project was successfully signed, with a total investment of 1.44 billion yuan. CATL is building a high-performance lithium battery production base in Xiamen, continuously increasing investment in Xiamen, injecting new momentum into the upgrade of Xiamen's new energy industry chain.

The project focuses on the expansion and upgrading of lithium-ion battery production capacity. The core construction content is divided into two main sections: on one hand, in the northern new area of the Dongqiao Development Zone, it will purchase key equipment such as formation machines and capacity testers, and build 5 new lithium-ion battery production lines; on the other hand, it will introduce equipment such as mixers and automatic glue applicators for technological transformation of existing factories and production lines, while simultaneously building corresponding auxiliary facilities to further strengthen the regional lithium battery industry development foundation.
Hungary's battery factory is expected to start production early next year, with an investment scale of 7.3 billion euros.
At the same time, CATL announced significant progress in its European strategy. The large battery factory located in Debrecen, Hungary, is expected to start production in early 2026. The project, which commenced in September 2022, has a total investment of 7.3 billion euros and covers various aspects including factory construction, equipment procurement, technology research and development, and talent recruitment.
The plant is planned to have an annual production capacity of 100 GWh, with a workforce of approximately 9,000 people. It aims to expand power battery production in Europe for well-known automakers such as Volkswagen, BMW, and Stellantis. CATL's Europe General Manager Matt Shen told Reuters that the current target is to start production in Debrecen "by the end of this year or early next year, in the next four to five months."
Investing in the construction of the battery factory in Hungary is a key component of CATL's global industrial chain layout. This will enable it to be closer to local European customers and respond quickly to their needs. With the commissioning of the Hungarian battery factory, CATL will greatly meet the vast demand for power batteries in the European market, further expand its market share in Europe, and enhance its competitiveness in the global battery industry.
