According to Dow Company's latest estimate last week, the Poly5 and Poly7 units used for polyethylene (PE) production at its Freeport plant in Texas, USA, are expected to restart "within the next week," which is this week, following the shutdown caused by the fire on October 6.

According to a spokesperson for the American chemical company, it is currently uncertain when the Poly6 polyethylene facility, where the fire occurred, will be able to restart production. "As we successfully complete our assessment and recovery work, we will obtain more information regarding the impact on the operations and product supply of the Poly6 polyethylene facility," the spokesperson added.

According to reports, Dow's Poly6 in Texas has an annual production capacity of 320,000 tons of linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE), Poly5 has an annual production capacity of 400,000 tons of low-density polyethylene, and Poly7 has an annual production capacity of 600,000 tons of low-density polyethylene.

Fire Review:

On the evening of October 6, 2025, local time, a fire and explosion occurred at Dow Chemical's largest chemical plant in the United States, located in Freeport, Texas.

Local residents reported that the shockwave from the explosion shook houses several miles away. The Freeport Fire Department quickly arrived at the scene to extinguish the fire.

As of 11:15 PM that night, the official report stated that the fire at Plant B had been successfully controlled, and the flames had been kept within the factory limits, without directly affecting the surrounding community.

Fortunately, although the explosion was large, there were no casualties. The specific cause of the fire is still under investigation.
