Celanese shuttering elastomer plant in Ontario
The facility in Sarnia supplies Vamac-brand elastomers.
Specialty materials maker Celanese Corp. is closing a plant in Sarnia, Ont., that supplies Vamac-brand elastomers.
In its second-quarter earnings report, published on Aug. 11, Celanese officials referenced the plant’s closure, as well as the shuttering of a plant making redispersible powders in Switzerland. Both closures will save the firm between US$5 million and US$10 million in 2026. Production from both sites “will be absorbed into [Celanese’s] existing infrastructure,” officials said.
Houston, Tex.-based Celanese acquired the Vamac elastomers product line from chemical maker DuPont Co. in late 2022.
