Carbios enters recycled PET market for tire textile filaments

Plastmatch Global Digest 2025-07-24 13:47:46

Carbios announced the signing of a multi-year commercial agreement with Indorama Group, involving the supply of monomers obtained by enzymatic depolymerization of PET waste from its Longlaville plant. These monomers will then be converted by Indorama into recycled PET yarns, which will ultimately be used by Michelin for tire manufacturing.

With its enzymatic PET recycling technology, Carbios will produce monomers from complex PET waste at its future industrial site in Longlaville. Delamarre Group will be responsible for repolymerization and the production of industrial yarns, while Michelin will use these innovative materials for tire reinforcement components.

This commercial agreement is a new step towards the commercialization of Carbios' future industrial base. Just a few weeks ago, the company signed its first sales contracts for biologically regenerated PET with two global cosmetics giants.

"The business agreement with the Indorama Group marks a new step in the realization of our industrial project. It confirms the trust that Indorama Group and Michelin have in our PET biorecycling technology. In addition to the commercial success already achieved in the cosmetic packaging application field, this agreement also demonstrates our capability to provide innovative solutions for the most demanding industries, particularly for industrial yarns for tires and the broader textile sector," said Carbios CEO Vincent Kamel.

"This collaboration demonstrates our commitment to transforming complex waste into high-performance materials. By integrating enzymatically recycled PET into our tires, we have reached a brand new milestone on our journey to achieve 100% renewable and recycled materials by 2050. It is through innovation, manufacturing excellence, and close cooperation with trusted partners that we are able to build strong and lasting circular models," said Fabien Gaboriaud, Michelin Group’s Director of Circular Economy and Renewable & Recycled Materials.

Renato Boaventura, Head of the Global Mobility Division at Indorama Ventures, confirmed the long-term partnership with Michelin for more sustainable solutions. “This alliance with Carbios and Michelin highlights our forward-looking commitment and our leading role in driving the industry’s transition toward a circular economy.”
