Canada has taken a strong stance! It has canceled Tesla's eligibility for subsidies and frozen 43 million Canadian dollars in subsidy funds.
Fast Technology reported on March 28 that after being threatened to become a state of the United States and facing increased tariffs, Canada has finally risen up in resistance.
According to reports from multiple media outlets, Canadian Transport Minister Chrystia Freeland recently stated thatThe country has frozen all subsidy payments to Tesla and prohibited Tesla from participating in future electric vehicle subsidy programs in Canada.
Freeland stated in an email shared from her office that no subsidy payments will be issued to Tesla until each subsidy application is investigated individually and its validity is determined.
He also instructed the transportation department to modify the eligibility requirements for the future "Zero Emission Vehicle Incentive Program (iZEV)."To ensure that "Tesla cars are not eligible for Canadian subsidies as long as the United States imposes unreasonable and illegal tariffs on Canada."
Previously, U.S. President Trump announced that he would impose a maximum 25% tariff on all cars not manufactured in the United States, as well as on certain automotive parts.
Trump said,"We start with a base tax rate of 2.5%, which is our current rate, and then increase it to 25%."The tariff will take effect on April 2 and will be levied starting the next day, claiming to be "permanently effective."
As a countermeasure against U.S. tariffs, Canada has frozen the payment of subsidies worth 43 million Canadian dollars (approximately 30.11 million U.S. dollars) to Tesla.
