Braskem to invest 4.2 billion reais to increase ethylene and polyethylene capacity in brazil

Braskem announced that its board of directors has approved an estimated investment of 4.2 billion reais to increase the capacity of its petrochemical complex in Rio de Janeiro by 220,000 tons of ethylene annually, along with an equal amount of polyethylene.
The first phase of the basic project, with a budget of 233 million reais, was approved in February this year.
Ensure raw material supply to support industrial transformation.
The project marks another step in the company's industrial transformation and competitiveness strategy, and it is part of its transformation plan. The project is scheduled for completion by the end of 2028 and requires additional financing beyond the resources already approved for REIQ investment (a special system for the chemical industry) in 2025 and 2026. This strategy is part of the ongoing analysis and discussion regarding the company's ideal capital structure.
“Despite the challenging current global situation, we must ensure that Braskem remains competitive in the new global petrochemical landscape, ensuring its survival and long-term sustainability. The investment in the Rio de Janeiro petrochemical complex demonstrates our confidence in Brazil's potential and Braskem's commitment to contributing to the sustainable reindustrialization of the sector, driven by innovation and value creation.Stefan Lepecki, Vice President of Braskem's South American Business, said.
To implement the project, the board also approved the procurement of a larger quantity of ethane through a long-term supply agreement with Petrobras, which is currently in the final stages of negotiation. This measure ensures supply security and operational competitiveness, strengthening the strategic partnership between the two companies.
The project aims to increase the use of natural gas in Braskem's feedstock matrix, reduce costs and emissions, and make the company's industrial park more modern, sustainable, and competitive.
"We are taking an important step in Braskem's energy transition and the transformation of the Brazilian chemical industry. This is an investment focused on the future—with efficiency, sustainability, and value creation at its core."This executive concluded."
