Biobased PC Used to Manufacture Organ Pipes Exhibited at Osaka Expo in Japan
Teijin Limited announced that pipes molded from its biomass-derived polycarbonate (PC) resin have been used to manufacture the world’s first bioplastic pipe organ. These transparent pipes are produced by Teiyo Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Teijin Limited specializing in plastic molding. This innovative pipe organ will be exhibited from August 19 to 25, 2025, at the "Challenge of Rebirth" area in the Osaka Healthcare Pavilion during the Osaka-Kansai Expo in Japan.
The bioplastic pipe organ was jointly created by an alliance consisting of eight plastic molding companies, all of which participated in the "Bioplastic Rebirth" project organized by the Western Japan Plastic Products Industrial Association. It symbolically demonstrates how the technology and philosophy of the plastic industry can contribute to addressing global environmental challenges such as climate change and marine plastic pollution.
The plastic pipes of the pipe organ are manufactured by Teiyo Co., Ltd. using bio-based polycarbonate (PC) resin produced by Teijin Limited based on the mass balance method. In addition to the environmental advantages of the bio-based polycarbonate (PC) resin, Teiyo Co., Ltd.'s advanced molding technology, which enables the production of pipes in various lengths and diameters, is also a key factor in its selection for manufacturing pipe organ pipes.
Teijin Limited continues to provide solutions that reduce environmental impact, striving to achieve its long-term vision of "becoming a company that supports the future of society." Through these efforts, Teijin Limited is committed to contributing to the realization of a sustainable society.
