Apple's First Apple Glass Smart Glasses Revealed: Set for 2026 Release

Donews 2025-10-14 10:17:37

DoNews reported on October 13 that, according to Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman, Apple has suspended the development of the lightweight VisionPro (VisionAir) and has shifted its research focus entirely to smart glasses. This marks a key pivot for Apple in the next generation of computing platforms.

The first generation of lightweight Apple Glass is expected to be released in 2026, but it won't be available until 2027. Apple may adopt a phased release strategy similar to Apple Silicon, allowing ample time between the product's announcement and its market availability for developers to adapt applications for the new platform and build the ecosystem. This timeline also aligns with earlier predictions that the product would debut at the end of 2026 or early 2027.

According to reports, Apple is developing a custom Apple Silicon processor for its smart glasses, which will enable it to support core functions such as handling phone calls, responding to Siri commands, and taking photos. Its positioning is closer to a smart wearable accessory rather than a standalone AR device.

The report also confirms that the real AR display feature will be integrated into the subsequent second generation of Apple Glass. Although specific details and the release date of the second generation product have not been disclosed, earlier rumors suggested that its AR display might be integrated into one of the lenses.

Smart glasses are expected to run a lightweight version of visionOS and work in conjunction with an iPhone or Mac.

When the glasses are connected to an iPhone, a lightweight version of the system will run, and when connected to a Mac, the full version of visionOS can be run.

Based on current information, it is speculated that Apple is still advancing a multi-tiered Vision product line: the low-end will be a screenless smart glasses, the mid-range will feature glasses equipped with a display, while the high-end will continue to retain the VisionPro.

In fact, Apple has reserved a considerable number of technology patents for smart glasses, including patents for the technology that links the glasses with the iPhone for content interaction.
