Fast Technology March 21 news, according to media reports,BMW will discontinue the Z4 model in 2026, and there will be no successor model.

The current BMW Z4 (G29) is produced by Magna Steyr at its factory in Graz, Austria, and is available only as a soft-top convertible.

From the BMW Group's 2024 financial report, the total sales proportion of the BMW Z4 is only 0.5%, and in recent years, sales have shown a downward trend, with some markets even starting to reduce the configurations and manual transmission versions of this model.

Looking back at the development history of the BMW Z4, the first generation Z4 made its debut in 2002, aimed at filling the market gap between the Z3 and Z8, developed based on the Z3 chassis, and positioned as a high-end two-seater convertible sports car.

Its power comes from a 2.5L or 3.0L inline six-cylinder naturally aspirated engine, paired with a 5-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission, with a maximum power output of up to 265 horsepower.

The second generation Z4 was launched in 2009, with increased body dimensions (length +15cm, width +1.5cm), featuring an electric retractable hardtop design, giving it a more modern appearance.

Compared to the first generation, the new model introduces for the first time configurations such as the iDrive system and Dynamic Drive Control, enhancing the sense of technology and driving experience.

Performance is further enhanced, offering a 2.0T four-cylinder and 3.0T inline-six turbocharged engine, paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission.

The third generation Z4 was released in 2018, continuing the concept car style, with larger kidney grilles, paired with sharp LED light clusters, a lower and more crouched body posture, and a stronger sense of sportiness.

Offers 2.0T four-cylinder (197 horsepower) and 3.0T inline-six (340 horsepower) engines, paired with an 8-speed automatic manual transmission, the 3.0T version accelerates from 0-100km/h in just 4.5 seconds.

The BMW Z4 has undergone three generations of evolution, from the avant-garde design of the first generation to the performance enhancement of the third generation, always being an iconic product in the field of convertible sports cars.

However, with the wave of electrification and changes in market demand, the discontinuation of the Z4 marks the gradual end of the era of traditional fuel-powered sports cars, but its classic design and driving experience will still leave a deep impression on car enthusiasts.
