Amcor Expands Operations to Costa Rica, Enhancing Medical Packaging Network
Amcor announced that it will further expand its medical packaging network by establishing a new warehouse and distribution center in Costa Rica.
The company representative stated that the facility located in San Jose will serve medical clients in the Americas by optimizing supply chain efficiency and covering a variety of medical packaging products, including pallets, die-cut lids, thermoformed films, bags, pouches, and labels.
The new distribution center will enhance supply chain efficiency through faster services and streamlined customs management. Amcor emphasizes that its quality management system will ensure customers can quickly access its product portfolio while strictly complying with regulatory standards for medical packaging.
Amcor Vice President Art Castro stated, “Amcor continues to invest in operational solutions to address the major challenges faced by our customers. Costa Rica is home to many of the world’s leading medtech OEMs, which highlights its position as a premier destination for investment and innovation in medical technology.”
Amcor's Medical Packaging division operates globally, providing packaging solutions for the medical, pharmaceutical, and consumer health sectors. The company has approximately 70,000 employees across about 140 countries, enabling it to offer global service capabilities to local customers while allowing local markets to access global brands.
Recent Developments of Amcor
As the medical packaging network continues to expand, Amcor's CEO and director Peter Konieczny expressed a cautious view on the company's North American beverage business during this month's earnings call.
"I want to state clearly and explicitly that we are not satisfied with the performance of our North American beverage business in the fourth quarter," Konieczny added. The company is considering selling this business segment and plans to close sites that do not align with the core business portfolio.
In May this year, Amcor and Fedrigoni announced a partnership to jointly launch a recyclable flexible packaging solution—combining Amcor’s AmPrima Plus cast packaging with Fedrigoni’s semi-rigid labels. According to the two companies, the entire packaging can be recycled within Europe’s polyethylene (PE) recycling systems.
At the end of 2024, Amcor announced plans to acquire Berry Global through an all-stock transaction, aiming to strengthen its leading position in the consumer goods and healthcare packaging sectors.
