On July 29, Fortune China, together with the global release, published the latest Fortune Global 500 list. This year, including companies from Taiwan, a total of 130 Chinese companies made the list, three fewer than last year. The number of listed companies is second only to the United States, ranking second globally, and is the lowest since 2019. The number of companies from mainland China (including Hong Kong) on the list is 124, four fewer than last year.

The total revenue of 130 Chinese companies on the 2024 list is approximately $10.7 trillion, a decrease of about 3% compared to last year's 133 companies on the list. The average sales revenue is about $82 billion, lower than the average revenue of $105.8 billion for listed U.S. companies, and also slightly below the average for all 500 companies on the list. The average profit of listed Chinese mainland (including Hong Kong) companies is $4.2 billion, nearly half that of the listed U.S. companies, and also lower than the average profit of $5.95 billion for all 500 companies on the list.
In the automotive sector, a total of 10 Chinese automobile and auto parts companies have entered the 2025 Fortune Global 500.
Chery's revenue increased significantly from $39.1 billion last year to $59.7 billion, climbing 152 places in the ranking to 233rd, showing strong growth momentum.
BYD’s ranking has risen significantly by 52 places compared to last year, with revenue reaching $108 billion, ranking 91st and entering the top 100 for the first time. This demonstrates its continuous breakthroughs and strong competitiveness in the new energy vehicle sector.
Geely's ranking has also risen by 30 places, with revenue increasing from $70.4 billion to $79.9 billion, and its influence in the global market is steadily expanding. These companies have strongly propelled China's automotive industry, especially electric vehicles, to accelerate their entry into the global market. However, except for BYD, Chery, and Geely, the rankings of the other seven companies have all declined compared to last year, including China FAW, Dongfeng Motor Corporation, SAIC Motor, GAC Group, CATL, and others.
From a global perspective, there are a total of 35 automotive and parts companies on the list worldwide. According to special contributor Wang Zhile, in recent years, Chinese automobile manufacturing has been leading the world in breakthroughs in new energy vehicle technology, production, and sales. However, compared to other major automobile-producing countries, there is still significant room for improvement in operational efficiency. The average sales return rate of global listed automotive and parts companies reaches 4.3%, which is almost double that of Chinese companies.
