  1. Ministry of Commerce: China and the U.S. are soliciting opinions on tariff reduction arrangements and will push for their implementation as soon as possible

At a press conference held by the State Council Information Office on July 23, Meng Huating, Director-General of the Foreign Investment Department of the Ministry of Commerce, responded to questions regarding progress on the China-U.S. Trade Council and Investment Council. He stated that economic and trade teams from both sides are maintaining close communication on the structure, functions and operational models of the Trade Council, and discussing a framework for reciprocal tariff reductions covering products worth USD 30 billion each side.
China is soliciting feedback from domestic enterprises, industry associations, local governments, U.S. chambers of commerce and other stakeholders on the proposed tariff reduction arrangements. The U.S. side is also opening public comments on the Trade Council and reciprocal tariff reduction plans. The two sides will stay in close contact to finalize specific product tariff reduction schedules and roll them out at an early date, so as to further expand bilateral trade.
  1. U.S. Senate committee approves bill imposing stricter access limits on Chinese automobiles

Reuters reported that on July 22 local time, the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation passed a bill designed to further restrict Chinese automakers’ access to the U.S. market. One clause under the bill would bar any automotive firm with over 15% equity held by Chinese entities from selling vehicles in the United States.
Mercedes-Benz holds roughly 20% Chinese investor ownership, which means the automaker could be affected by the provision. Mercedes-Benz issued a response noting it maintains extensive business operations across the U.S. The company will continue to back legislation safeguarding U.S. national security, while expressing hopes that any new laws will not disrupt its regular operations, and that the interests of its employees, dealers, suppliers and customers remain protected.

3. Pirelli, Pyrum, Synthos and BASF Launch Joint Cooperation to Convert Waste Tires into Recycled Materials

Pirelli, Pyrum, Synthos and BASF are jointly advancing a tire-to-tire circular economy project across Europe to build an industrial ecosystem and scale up the application of recycled raw materials derived from end-of-life tires.

The project collects waste tires nationwide throughout Germany, covering stock from Driver tire retail outlets, used tires from motor racing events, as well as scrap tires generated at Pirelli’s Breuberg Plant. These tires will enter the processing chain to maximize the intrinsic value of waste materials.

4. Cosmo Films Rolls Out Transparent Anti-Fog Biodegradable Film, Expanding BOPP into High-Performance Food Packaging

Cosmo Films has recently launched a transparent anti-fog biodegradable film designed for fresh food packaging. Manufactured via co-extrusion technology with biaxially oriented polypropylene (BOPP) as the substrate, the product integrates multiple functionalities including clear visibility, anti-fog performance, heat sealability and printability. It is primarily suited for packaging pre-cut vegetables, salads, meat, flowers and other goods.

When fresh food undergoes refrigeration, transportation and shelf display, temperature differences tend to generate water vapor. Water droplets clinging to the inner surface of packaging not only prevent consumers from clearly viewing the food condition but also undermine the product’s shelf presentation effect.

5. Evonik Partners with Celtic Renewables to Expand Footprint in Sustainable Cosmetic Raw Material Sector
