Ineos inovyn proposes full acquisition of runcorn chlor-alkali operations

Recently, INEOS Inovyn, a subsidiary of the INEOS Group, signed an acquisition agreement to acquire the remaining 50% stake in Runcorn MCP Limited from Vynova Runcorn Limited, which has entered bankruptcy administration in 2025. The acquisition also includes the related assets and employees involved in the production of ethylene dichloride (EDC) at the Runcorn plant. The transaction is subject to various legal and regulatory approvals and is expected to be completed in the second half of 2026.

About 98% of the chlorine required for drinking water treatment in the UK is supplied by the Runcorn site, which highlights the plant’s critical importance to public health and national infrastructure.

This acquisition is an important step in ensuring the continued operation of the strategically significant chlor-alkali business in the UK. Chlor-alkali products are fundamental raw materials for water treatment and food production, while also supporting numerous downstream industries such as pharmaceuticals, healthcare, and construction. Strengthening the domestic chlor-alkali industry in the UK is crucial for the country’s supply chain autonomy and risk resistance capability.
