Hunan petrochemical develops polypropylene for aluminum-coated cast film

Recently, Hunan Petrochemical's new polypropylene product development has made another breakthrough. The aluminum-coated cast film special propylene-butene copolymer resin PPD-F05 has been successfully developed. The first batch of trial materials have been sent to downstream manufacturers for testing, filling the gap in the domestic high-end market for similar products. This is the third new polypropylene product launched by the company this year, with a cumulative output of more than 2,000 tons.

PPD-F05 polypropylene is a specialized polypropylene film material tailored for metallized packaging films, offering excellent transparency, extremely low extractables, and strong metallization adhesion. It is primarily suitable for retort cast films and metallized cast films, used in packaging for ready-to-eat snacks and vacuum-packed fresh foods. Currently, all domestic cast film-specific polypropylene products in China are ethylene-propylene copolymers, which exhibit relatively high extractables and fail to meet the stringent requirements of medical devices and high-end food packaging. Through technological innovation, the Propylene Oxide Division of Hunan Petrochemical has developed a low-extractable propylene-butene copolymer product that complies with international standards.

During the new product development phase, the Hunan Petrochemical Propylene Oxide Department’s technical team collaborated closely with relevant research institutes and Sinopec Chemical Sales Company, closely monitoring downstream market demand trends. In response to customer requirements, the team swiftly conducted market research and technical feasibility studies. Leveraging production expertise, they determined critical production parameters and auxiliary agent formulations, efficiently advancing the entire workflow. The first batch of over 210 tons of trial material was successfully produced, with all performance indicators meeting expectations.
