In addition to capacity expansion, BASF has also built a state-of-the-art application laboratory at the site. This new facility will strengthen technical service capabilities, deepen collaboration with customers, and provide stronger support for formulation development.
The Durban site serves customers across East Africa, West Africa, and the entire Southern African region and is one of BASF’s six dispersion production sites in the Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) region. With production facilities spread across Europe, Africa, and the Middle East, BASF achieves proximity to local customers, stable supply, and rapid response to regional market demands.
“Our investment in Durban underscores our firm commitment to the rapidly growing African region and our local customers. Combined with our recent expansion in Dilovasi, Turkey, and the modernization of our Ludwigshafen site, we are reinforcing our position as a leading supplier of high-quality dispersions in the EMEA region and enhancing our ability to support our customers’ growth and innovation.” said Dr. Jörg Niebergall, Senior Vice President, Dispersions Europe, BASF.
“The Durban facility’s expansion will enhance supply reliability and ensure exceptional product quality,” added Ruveshen Reddy, Durban site manager. “To achieve this goal, we have modernized our production facilities and installed state-of-the-art reactors.”
This year, BASF celebrates its 60th anniversary in the South African market. As the only multinational company currently operating a dedicated dispersions production facility in South Africa, BASF remains committed to deepening its local presence and fulfilling its long-term commitment to customers, partners, and regional market development.
